Happy Hour

It's been a good week. Running is going well and I am ready for the big 14 on Saturday. For the record this will break my longest distance to date. Quite excited. On a more fun note. My mentor Michelle put together a happy hour for her mentor group so we could get together when we are not sweating it out and pushing ourselves beyond physical exhaustion and actually  have some fun. Just kidding, 14 miles will be fun right? Anyway we met at a Japanese restaurant at the Spectrum and had some appey's and beverages. We had sushi and dumplings and at some point the fried baby octopus got ordered and a conversation ensued as to whether they had an actual brain. Because the head was still on there, fried and ready for tasting and a number of us were not so sure about eating the head. Does an octopus have a brain or is it more of just a central nervous system? Can someone please find that out and get back to me? Google it or something. I have a lot of running to do and don't have time. :)

I did try it but I only ate the legs. Tastes like chicken....I mean calamari.
It was so nice to see everyone in normal clothes. We got a chance to chat and I got to ask some questions about the travel stuff and race weekend. So many of the girls have done this a number of times so it was great to get their input. I am getting quite excited for the race. Many thanks to Michelle for getting us all together.

Aw man! I missed the big group photo...so sad. At least there's proof that I ate the octopus. Great pics, great blog, I'm coming back for more!

Panama Day 5-Howard

This was the most surreal hour and a half of the whole trip. We made our way out to Howard Air Force Base (which is no longer an AFB) and found our old house. Just looking at the photos I get emotional all over again. Not that I broke down crying or anything but it was really weird standing in a place that holds so many memories.  Here is me freaking out that we found it!!! Our old Street! Coffey Avenue! Exploring the old digs!  This stairwell led up to the door in the kitchen. It was a little creepy so I just filmed from where I was.  :-/ I don't do creepy. Here we are in front of 60A Coffey Ave!    That "hill" behind my mom seemed so much bigger when we lived there. I remember my dog running down it and tripping, which led to a head over heels tumble that still makes me laugh when I think of it. And that fence used to be a favorite spot for three toed sloths to hang out.  ...

Henri Bendel

I am in Love. It happened quite suddenly although I met him years ago. We rekindled our affair on Fashion's night out a few months back and now it's official, I am head over heels. :) His name is Henri and I love everything about him. I want to be a Bendel Girl for the rest of my life. All illustrations by Izak Zenou who does Incredibly beautiful work. Oh to be THAT talented....swoon.

June 18-It's a good day

There is nothing like an early morning run to give you a total attitude shift. The birds are singing, people are walking their dogs, houses are waking up and all seems right with the world. I know, I know, there are a few of you who will argue vehemently that running, at 6am no less, is not exactly what you would call a good time. But I beg to differ and I challenge you to try it. Just once. I am not going to lie, it's been a tough week. Work has been busy, I had a free lance job that had me up until 3 am on Tuesday night, I have been on an emotional roller coaster and I have had moments where I just wanted to crawl under my covers and hide. When my alarm went off this morning, I was surprisingly not exhausted.  I made a mental note that I would just take an easy run. Start out slow. I was scheduled to run 35 minutes but since my run yesterday got ixsnayed (how exactly do you spell that?) I decided to try to go a little longer so I don't pay for it on my run Saturday. SO I hopp...
